First Church of Christ, Scientist – Salinas

Serving our community. Sharing healing stories. Growing spiritually.

Wednesday Evening Meeting Topic: No change my heart shall fear

Mal. 3:2 For I am the Lord, I change not…

Come hear how Ruth’s life was changed as she learned about the one God that guided and directed her life as she was compassionate to her mother-in-law.

Wednesday readings and testimonies 6/19

Tonight’s readings were on “resolving conflict”.

Testimonies included:
– gratitude for last week’s readings on “the city four square” and that our church is representing that.

– Seeing the Daily Prayer in Christian Science as a call to pray for peace among mankind in our own neighborhood and across the world. Our God is a god of peace, and have peace with justice. God does both.

– prayer in Christian Science directs us to handle our own thought through prayer by affirming the truth about God and God’s idea, man. Whatever may be going on outside, where we make a difference is how we think and pray that guides our further actions. This has been very helpful for a member who teaches at a local middle school.

– “Clad in the panoply of Love, human hatred cannot reach you,” a quote from Science &Health is very supportive for daily protective work in our prayers.

– hiking to Squaw Valley in Lake Tahoe, the testifier fell back on unstable trail into brush that padded her: “Into the arms of Love”. The high elevation didn’t defeat her, as she kept climbing she could hear angel messages saying ” I am here with thee”. It turned out to be a growing experience.

Topic for Wednesday’s meeting, 6/12

From Gail, our First Reader:

Tomorrow being the second Wednesday the readings will focus on the “City of God.”
Glorious things are spoken of thee, O city of God.” (Psalm 87:3)
Here’s our opportunity to embrace Salinas as this city.  Let us come together
and share our love for Salinas by utilizing the truths we have in Christian Science.

Bible Study Fruitage

We just completed 4 weeks of studying the Bible Lesson with the Spanish speaking members of our church community. We gathered in the Sunday School building from 12-1:30 p.m. on Saturdays from May 11 to June 1. Everyone brought something to share, whether it was food, inspiration, or their sense of humor.

In each week’s Bible lesson, we read the Golden Text as the theme of the overall lesson. As we read the Responsive Reading and the first section of the lesson, we explored the answers to two main questions: Who is God? What does God do?

Over the four weeks we had eleven participants, making an intimate group to read and share with a wide range of ages and experience levels with the Christian Science Bible Lesson.

There were several “ah-ha” moments during our weekly discussions when someone would make a connection to a verse read in a previous week or learn something new about God from the Bible or Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures.

The Spanish Bible Lesson Study Group will get together again soon. Perhaps it will be hosted in another location convenient to all participants. Please contact the church if your are interested in participating.
